A Stay at the Westin Kansas City Crown Center
Updated: Jun 11, 2022
Looking for the perfect spot to stay in Kansas City? The Westin Kansas City Crown Center offers the perfect location with plenty to offer on your trip.
When thinking about where to stay in Kansas City, you have a bunch of options, but most of them don’t offer much to add to your stay. When I found out the Westin was right in the center of downtown and had tons of awesome added amenities for a great price, I was ready to stay there. For just $150 a night, you get all the amazing amenities of a Westin hotel without having to splurge a ton on the luxury of such a place. It definitely ended up being a great experience for me!
I hadn’t been to Kansas City in years, but when I got the chance this winter to visit during a layover, I was excited! It’s the perfect spot for a long weekend or a few days of fun.

Location
The location of this hotel could not be better! The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center is located right in the middle of downtown, across the street from Union Station. You are within walking distance of the World War I Memorial and Museum, Union Station, tons of restaurants and shops, Lego Land, the aquarium, and the convention center.
Honestly, I am probably forgetting some things within walking distance because there is so much! It was perfect for me during the winter because I barely had to go outside to get anywhere. There are indoor walkways directly to shops, the convention center, and Union Station.
I took a 35-minute Lyft from the airport to get to the hotel, which cost me about $30. The hotel offers the same service for about the same price, but I didn’t find out about this until after I checked in. If you are coming from the airport, definitely check with your hotel before you decide how to get there!

Facilities and Entertainment
This hotel has some excellent amenities, a gorgeous lobby, and great views. They are currently renovating the VIP lounge, suites, and hotel rooms to provide guests with the best experience. The rooms are already great, so I know your stay will be even better when it is complete. Know that while they are renovating, certain rooms will be near construction, so check with the staff when you check in to make sure your room is away from the noise if that is important to you.
There is an entire level of the hotel dedicated to fitness and the pool. The pool is heated and definitely looked nice in the cold weather, but it was 3 degrees outside, and I was freezing, so the pool couldn’t tempt me! There were indoor jacuzzis, a sauna, and a steam room that I did enjoy, though! They also offer a full bar next to the pool, which is such a nice way to relax while you’re in the jacuzzi.

The full gym is quite large, and you get a great view of the pool as you work out on the bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills. There is also a large room for lifting weights and a full locker room. Outside you will find tennis courts and a running track. Plus, Westin has a great program where you can rent full workout clothes and shoes for just $10, which makes working out while traveling so easy. Definitely check this service out if you forgot your workout gear or are trying to pack light!

The Westin is also attached to Crown Center, which gives you access to shops and restaurants that are fun to walk through. The only major shopping spot with clothes and items is Halls, which makes up the majority of Crown Center’s shopping. You can see tons of little local places inside here as well. I wouldn’t spend all day shopping here, but it is really convenient that it is connected to the hotel. It’s the perfect spot to buy gifts for anyone as well at a local shop like the one above.

My favorite amenity offered at this hotel was the very kind concierge and shuttle around downtown. While I was there, it was really cold, and I was new to Kansas City. The concierge gave me a ton of suggestions on things to do and see, plus there is a free shuttle bus that runs around downtown. I was able to use the free shuttle instead of walking around in the cold. They will take you from the hotel all the way up to the Power & Light District. I definitely saved money by taking this shuttle instead of an Uber all over the place.

Food
I enjoyed a breakfast and appetizers at the hotel while there. There is one restaurant in the hotel, The Brasserie, and it had delicious food. The appetizers we received were excellent, and we enjoyed them a bunch. I had the Korean chicken wings and the spinach artichoke dip—both of which I highly recommend! They also had a wide choice of cocktails and local beers to choose from. The atmosphere is very calm and quiet, which is nice in a hotel. It was the perfect spot to go before heading out for dinner in downtown Kansas City.

The breakfast was really great as well. I enjoyed a large omelette and fresh-squeezed juice. I love how refreshed and energized I felt for the day after breakfast. My only complaint was the coffee! They had a full-service coffee bar with espresso, but I opted for a regular coffee. Maybe I should have gone for the latte, but the drip coffee was not so great that day. The service was quick and very kind. It was a great experience.

Room
I loved my room at the Westin! It had an incredible view, which was definitely my favorite part. It was a large room with all the amenities readily available. The room had robes, a coffee bar, a large flat screen, and chairs set up to take in the great view. The bathtub was huge, which made for luxurious showers and baths. I love being able to relax while traveling!
Also, the view was even prettier at night!

Staff
I had excellent interactions with all staff at this hotel! From check-in to the gift shop, everyone was so friendly and kind at the Westin. I had multiple questions, as I was by myself and pretty unfamiliar with the area. I was even able to email them ahead of time to get suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the area. We took several of their suggestions. The staff was also really helpful, telling me about the shuttle and making sure I was comfortable throughout my stay.
If you are headed to Kansas City, then the Westin Crown Center is definitely an affordable, friendly place in the perfect location for your stay!
